High-Frequency Transformer Application Case in Automotive Electronics

2026-01-28
In modern electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), high-frequency transformers play a pivotal role in the on-board power conversion system, especially in the DC-DC converter of a mid-size pure electric sedan launched by a leading global automaker. This model adopts a 20kHz high-frequency transformer to realize efficient energy transmission between the high-voltage battery pack (400V) and the low-voltage electrical system (12V).
Compared with traditional low-frequency transformers, the selected transformer features a compact structure, with a volume reduced by 45% and weight decreased by 38%, perfectly adapting to the limited installation space in the vehicle chassis. It adopts a nanocrystalline core material and optimized winding design, achieving a conversion efficiency of up to 98.5% and effectively reducing energy loss during power transmission.
In extreme working conditions such as -40℃ low temperature and 125℃ high temperature, the transformer maintains stable performance, ensuring continuous power supply for key components like the vehicle’s infotainment system, lighting, and braking assist module. This application not only enhances the vehicle’s cruising range by reducing energy waste but also improves the reliability of the on-board electrical system, setting a benchmark for high-frequency transformer applications in automotive electronics.
